MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A Montgomery parking lot argument escalated into a deadly shooting, and now 33-year-old Taboris Ladale Mock will spend the next 14 years behind bars. Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson announced today that Mock was sentenced to 168 months in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms, a charge stemming from the September 28, 2024, incident and a subsequent search of his residence.
The trouble began around 3:25 a.m. when Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire at a Wetumpka Highway establishment. Witnesses described a chaotic scene – up to six individuals engaged in a full-blown shootout following a heated altercation. Surveillance footage quickly identified Mock discharging a handgun in the direction of a vehicle before making a hasty retreat.
The aftermath was grim. Investigators recovered a staggering 24 spent shell casings at the scene. More tragically, they learned a person inside the vehicle Mock targeted had been rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound. That victim didn’t make it. The shooting ultimately proved fatal, though Mock was initially charged with firearm possession, not murder.
A month later, on October 23, 2024, federal agents executed a search warrant at Mock’s Montgomery home. The search yielded a 9mm handgun. The discovery was damning. Due to prior felony convictions, Mock was legally prohibited from owning or possessing any firearms or ammunition. He faced two counts of unlawful firearm possession, and ultimately pleaded guilty on April 1, 2025.
Federal Judge handed down the 168-month sentence on July 1, 2025, a punishment with no possibility of parole. This case isn’t just about one man and one shooting; it’s part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative designed to bring together law enforcement and communities to aggressively tackle violent crime. The Department of Justice revived PSN in 2017, emphasizing targeted efforts against violent offenders.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, alongside the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Montgomery Police Department, spearheaded the investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Mark E. Andreu and Michelle R. Turner prosecuted the case, securing a significant sentence that removes a dangerous individual from the streets and sends a clear message: illegal gun possession will not be tolerated.
