PROVIDENCE – In a stunning turn of events, Jose Alejandro Morales Cordon, a 37-year-old Guatemalan national, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Rhode Island for illegal reentry into the United States. The defendant, who was deported in 2018, found himself back in the country’s crosshairs when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) linked his fingerprints to an assault and cyberstalking arrest through a biometric match system in June 2025.
Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced the charges against Morales Cordon, who is set to appear in U.S. District Court on July 28, 2025, for his arraignment. Assistant U.S Attorney Julie M. White will be leading the prosecution in this case.
This latest development comes under the banner of Operation Take Back America, a comprehensive nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). The operation mobilizes resources from various Department of Justice task forces, including OCDETFs and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), to safeguard communities against violent crime.
It is important to note that the federal indictment is merely an accusation. Morales Cordon, like all defendants, is presumed innocent unless proven guilty through legal proceedings.
