Morgantown Woman Pleads Guilty to Heroin Distribution Charge

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – In a gritty admission of guilt, Sabrina Burton, 25, from Morgantown, has confessed to a serious drug charge, according to United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II.

Burton’s plea today was for one count of ‘Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin,’ a crime she committed in May 2020 within the borders of Monongalia County.

With a potential sentence of up to 20 years behind bars and a staggering fine of $1,000,000, the Federal Sentencing Guidelines will determine the actual penalty based on the severity of the offense and any prior criminal history.

The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Zelda E. Wesley and Sarah E. Wagner, who are acting on behalf of the government in this case.

The investigation into Burton’s activities was a collaborative effort involving numerous law enforcement agencies including the FBI, DEA, ATF, West Virginia State Police, Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, Morgantown WVU, Granville and Star City Police Departments. Additional support came from various partners such as the Monongalia County Prosecutor’s Office, FBI in Houston, Texas, Houston Police Department’s Multi Agency Gang Initiative, United States Postal Inspection Service in Houston, and the FBI and DEA in Los Angeles, California.

This operation is part of a larger Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) initiative aimed at dismantling high-level criminal organizations. More information about OCDETF can be found at https://www.justice.gov/OCDETF.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the hearing, and further details on the case can be accessed at https://www.justice.gov/usao-ndwv/pr/25-people-indicted-drug-trafficking-operation-spanned-several-states.
