Newark, N.J. – The grim tale of a Morris County man’s alleged confrontation with federal officers has gripped the state. Maloy Amador, 43, is now staring down a litany of charges after an intense standoff that ended in gunfire.
Amador faces the grave charge of attempting to murder a federal officer, along with discharge of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, and intent to distribute cocaine. The defendant appeared on August 14, 2025, before U.S. Magistrate Judge José R. Almonte, where he was detained without bail.
“Violence against federal law enforcement officers will not be tolerated in New Jersey,” declared Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Attorney Alina Habba. “Those who use violence against law enforcement officers will be prosecuted using the toughest criminal statutes and penalties available.”
The August 13, 2025, incident unfolded at Amador’s Parsippany residence, where law enforcement had responded to execute a search warrant linked to a federal narcotics and firearms investigation. The confrontation escalated as Amador opened fire on the officers. An exchange of gunfire ensued before Amador surrendered, leaving him injured in the arm. One officer sustained minor injuries.
During the subsequent search, authorities uncovered drugs and multiple assault rifles within the residence. The attempted murder charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years, while the discharge charge could see Amador spend a minimum of 10 years behind bars. He faces up to 15 years for firearms possession and 20 years for the drug offense.
Acting U.S. Attorney Habba expressed gratitude to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, New Jersey State Police, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, and Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department for their roles in this investigation.
