Morris Man Jailed 17 Years for Child Porn Ring
NEWARK, N.J. – A 37-year-old man from Morristown, New Jersey, has been sentenced to 204 months in prison for producing and possessing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced.
Steven Brooks, a former elementary school employee and youth soccer club administrator, pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Brian Martinotti imposed the sentence in Newark federal court.
According to documents filed in the case, law enforcement officers discovered possible child pornography on an external hard drive belonging to Brooks in January 2021. Following judicially authorized search warrants, officers searched Brooks’ external hard drive, electronic devices, and social media accounts.
Brooks used fake online personas on social media platforms to solicit explicit photos and videos from dozens of minors. He acknowledged attempting to online entice, produce, and possess child pornography involving at least 79 victims, as part of his guilty plea.
Brooks was also ordered to pay $237,000 in restitution and serve 10 years of supervised release following his prison term. The investigation was led by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Human Trafficking Task Force, with assistance from the San Francisco field office.
U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited special agents from the task force and the FBI’s San Francisco field office with the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Levin represented the government in the case.
The harsh sentence for Brooks serves as a reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes and the efforts of law enforcement to hold perpetrators accountable.
