Ride or Die Gang Member Sentenced for Firearm and Drug Violations

A 25-year-old New Orleans resident has been handed a lengthy prison sentence for his involvement in a notorious gang’s firearm and drug trafficking operations.

Morris Summers, a member of the Ride or Die gang, pleaded guilty to federal firearm and drug violations and was sentenced to 60 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release.

According to court documents, Summers and his co-conspirators were charged with conspiring to distribute cocaine base in the St. Roch neighborhood and possessing firearms in furtherance of their drug trafficking crimes.

The Ride or Die gang, also known as R.O.D., was formed in 2007 and continued to operate until 2013. Members used a house on Mandeville Street as a base of operations to package, sell, and store narcotics, as well as store firearms.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as part of the metro area’s Multi-Agency Gang Unit (MAG) in investigating this matter.

As an integral component of NOLA FOR LIFE’s Group Violence Reduction Strategy, the MAG Unit consists of a partnership with the New Orleans Police Department, Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, Parole Board of the Louisiana Department of Corrections, United States Attorney’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Marshal’s Service, and the United States Probation & Parole Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Assistant United States Attorneys Nolan D. Paige and Marquest Meeks, along with former Special Assistant United States Attorney Brian Ebarb, were responsible for the prosecution.

This is the latest development in a string of convictions related to the Ride or Die gang. Nine defendants have already pled guilty and been sentenced, including co-defendants Andrealie Lewis, Tyone Burton, Ervin Spooner, Perry Wilson, Tre Clements, Nyson Jones, Romalis Parker, and Tyrone Burton.

The following defendants were convicted following trial and are awaiting sentencing: Deloyd Jones, Byron Jones, and Sidney Patterson.

The Ride or Die gang was initially formed in 2007 and continued to operate until 2013, using a house on Mandeville Street as a base of operations.
