MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA — In a grim setback for the local drug trade, Samantha Lee Smith, 22, from Muskogee, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 63 months in federal prison and five years of supervised release for her role in a methamphetamine conspiracy. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White in Muskogee.
The case dates back to 2013 when Smith and an as-yet-unnamed co-conspirator began their illicit activities, ultimately leading to the January 27, 2016, date on which they were apprehended. During this period, they conspired to distribute at least 500 grams of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, according to the Superseding Indictment.
The investigation that led to Smith’s conviction was a collaborative effort between several law enforcement agencies, including the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, Tahlequah Police Department, Muskogee Police Department, Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) coordinated these efforts, an initiative led by the Office of the United States Attorney.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shannon Henson represented the government in court, ensuring justice was served for the victims of Smith’s drug trafficking operation. Following the sentencing, Smith will remain in federal custody until she is transported to a designated facility to serve her nonparoleable sentence.
This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle against illegal drugs and the commitment of local and federal law enforcement to protect communities from such threats.
