Joshua Ray Higgins Sentenced to 60 Months for Methamphetamine Distr…

Joshua Ray Higgins, a 27-year-old resident of Muskogee, Oklahoma, was handed a 60-month federal prison sentence today for his role in methamphetamine distribution. The harsh punishment, which also includes 4 years of supervised release, comes after Higgins was indicted and pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute the dangerous substance.

The case against Higgins stemmed from an extensive investigation led by the Muskogee Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Authorities charged him with knowingly possessing over 50 grams of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, with the intent to distribute.

Higgins was indicted in December 2013 and pleaded guilty in February 2014. The sentencing hearing was presided over by District Judge Ronald A. White at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee.

Upon completion of his sentence, Higgins will be transported to a federal facility to serve out his nonparolable term. Assistant United States Attorney Shannon Henson represented the government in this case.

This conviction and sentencing are a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking across Oklahoma and the country. The Muskogee Police Department and DEA continue their efforts to rid the community of dangerous drugs and those who would sell them.
