A disturbing trend in the world of illicit narcotics has come to light in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as 38-year-old Myles Schwitzer was found guilty of using a cell phone to facilitate a heroin deal.
According to court documents, Schwitzer’s actions landed him a three-year stint of probation, a sentence handed down by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams on May 28, 2019.
Schwitzer’s guilty plea, entered on December 21, 2018, admitted to utilizing a cellular telephone to commit the felony crimes of possession of heroin and attempted possession of heroin.
The DEA Task Force, consisting of the DEA; the Linn County Sheriff’s Office; the Cedar Rapids Police Department; the Marion Police Department; and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, investigated the case and worked alongside Special Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Greenwood and Assistant United States Attorney Dan Chatham to bring Schwitzer to justice.
