Najee Lewis Gets 3 Years for Carrying Gun While Shoplifting
A Stafford man is headed to prison for the second time in as many years after being caught carrying a gun while shoplifting.
Najee O. Lewis, aka Bebo, 27, of Stafford, was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
According to court documents, Lewis was apprehended by loss prevention personnel at a department store in McLean on Dec. 3, 2023, after they observed him shoplifting merchandise. The personnel contacted the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), which responded and recovered a loaded .40 caliber Glock handgun from Lewis’ pants.
The gun, which had a round in the chamber and 22 rounds in an extended magazine, was seized by FCPD officers. Lewis’ arrest marked the second time in two years that he has been caught with a gun.
In 2018, Lewis posted a music video to YouTube showing himself with a stolen 9mm handgun, violating the terms of his pre-existing supervised release. He was subsequently convicted of illegally possessing a firearm and sentenced to time.
As a convicted felon, Lewis is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. His latest conviction has resulted in a three-year prison sentence, leaving many in the community wondering how a repeat offender like Lewis continues to fall through the cracks.
U.S. District Judge Rossie D. Alston Jr. presided over the sentencing, which was announced by Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, along with Craig Kailimai, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division, and Kevin Davis, Fairfax County Chief of Police.
The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys Daniel I. Lipkowitz and Noah Sissoko.
