A 41-year-old Mexican national has been convicted of using a fake Social Security number to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential in Louisiana, announced U.S. Attorney Dana Boente.
Narciso Ramos-Lopez, a citizen of Mexico, pleaded guilty in federal court to a one-count indictment charging him with illegal use of a Social Security number.
The indictment alleges that on or about March 8, 2010, Ramos-Lopez, with the intent to deceive and for the purpose of obtaining a Transportation Worker Identification Credential, falsely represented that a Social Security number had been assigned to him by the Commissioner of Social Security.
Ramos-Lopez is unlawfully present in the United States and faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years, a fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE) with the assistance of the Louisiana State Police.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Weir.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 16, 2013.
The Transportation Worker Identification Credential is a required credential for individuals who need unescorted access to secure areas of the nation’s transportation system.
