NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The grim tapestry of Nashville’s criminal underbelly darkened once more as Christopher Brazelton, 24, faced a fresh round of charges yesterday in the chilling case of Justin Lawton’s 2016 murder and robbery.
Brazelton, along with his alleged co-conspirator Brandon Hunt-Clark, 22, have been charged with conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery, among other serious offenses. The duo is accused of not only the heinous crime but also tampering with a witness who held crucial knowledge about the case.
According to court documents, Lawton was senselessly gunned down on December 14, 2016, leaving the city in shock and demanding answers. Now, Brazelton stands charged with using, carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm that resulted in death, in addition to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Both men currently remain in custody, facing the prospect of life imprisonment if found guilty. The case has been meticulously investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Sunny A.M. Koshy leading the prosecution.
The charges against Brazelton are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, as is his co-defendant Hunt-Clark, who was indicted last month.
As the city grapples with this latest tragedy, the community demands justice for Lawton and calls for a relentless pursuit of those who would terrorize its streets.
