Reco Allen Jones, 29, a.k.a. Bon Jovi, was handed a 16-year sentence yesterday for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute in Nashville, Tenn., according to David Rivera, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee.
Jones pleaded guilty on September 27, 2016, marking the culmination of an investigation that implicated him in drug trafficking near schools and public housing developments.
The sentence includes three years of supervised release following his prison term.
“The residents of these communities deserve to live in a place where it is safe for their children,” Rivera stated. “We will continue to prosecute those who choose to commit federal crimes and endanger residents.”
Jones’ prior criminal record, which included multiple felony drug convictions and a conviction for aggravated assault, qualified him as a career offender under federal law.
On May 11, 2015, Jones attempted to evade police during a traffic stop in the J.C. Napier public housing development near Cameron Middle School. He was caught after throwing a bag of cocaine from his vehicle and discarding cash.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s Gang Division. Assistant United States Attorneys Sunny A.M. Koshy and Henry Leventis prosecuted the case.
