Today, Anthony Laquesa Coleman, also known as ‘Scrappy’, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in drug trafficking and firearm possession. The 30-year-old resident of Nashville, Tennessee, has been a constant threat to public safety in the city.
Coleman was indicted in July 2015 and pleaded guilty in November 2016. His previous convictions include two drug felony convictions, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and reckless aggravated assault.
Records show that Coleman regularly sold cocaine and crack cocaine on the streets of North Nashville, despite warnings from local residents. On March 23, 2015, things took a dangerous turn when he threatened women with a loaded pistol in front of young children, leading to his arrest by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Acting U.S. Attorney Jack Smith emphasized the importance of community involvement in fighting crime, stating, “All our citizens deserve to live without fear, and we encourage residents to continue working with law enforcement.”
This case was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Sunny A.M. Koshy and Ahmed Safeeullah handled the prosecution.
