NATCHEZ, Miss. – Jarvanti Keyon Doss, 22, of Natchez, has entered a guilty plea in federal court for receiving a firearm while under a felony indictment. The charge stems from an incident on March 22, 2019, where Doss was observed removing a pistol from his pants during a ‘saturation detail’ operation by ATF agents and local law enforcement.
Doss had been indicted on August 25, 2017, by an Adams County Grand Jury for felony charges. He faced federal charges after being apprehended with the firearm.
Sentencing is scheduled before U.S. District Judge David C. Bramlette, III, on October 1, 2019. Doss could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The ATF led the investigation into this case, which is part of Project EJECT, an initiative by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi under the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). The EJECT program, or ‘Empower Justice Expel Crime Together,’ aims to reduce violent crime through a multi-disciplinary approach.
Assistant United States Attorney Bert Carraway is prosecuting this case. Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions reinvigorated PSN in 2017, calling for a united front against violent criminals and fostering local strategies to combat crime.
