HOUSTON – In a chilling revelation, John Allen Chumley, a 43-year-old former Navasota resident, has been handed a 30-year sentence for his heinous acts of producing and possessing child pornography. The verdict was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Abe Martinez following Chumley’s guilty plea on September 13, 2016.
Today, in a federal hearing, Judge David Hittner imposed a total of 360 months behind bars upon Chumley. The judge acknowledged the profound pain and suffering his actions caused to the victims and their families, citing emotional letters from the affected parties as part of the sentencing hearing.
In addition to the lengthy prison term, Chumley will be registered as a sex offender and subjected to lifelong supervised release. This period will include strict requirements designed to restrict his access to children and the Internet.
Chumley, who worked as a long-haul truck driver, transported child pornography across state lines and even traveled with one of his victims—a 10-year-old boy—exploiting him through lewd photographs taken in Houston and elsewhere. He manipulated the trust of a family member to gain access to the child and photographed him in inappropriate poses.
Furthermore, Chumley produced child pornography involving another minor he regularly molested while living in the Houston area. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, along with FBI offices in Houston and Springfield, Illinois, conducted a thorough investigation that led to his conviction. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sherri L. Zack of the Southern District of Texas prosecuted the case.
Chumley’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes and the relentless efforts by law enforcement to bring such predators to justice.
