In a stunning turn of events, Keith Deshon Adams, 39, from Statesville, North Carolina, has pleaded guilty to federal drug charges in West Virginia. Adams stands accused of possession with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of methamphetamine and a quantity of fentanyl.
The gritty tale began on September 7, 2022, when law enforcement officers pulled over a vehicle Adams was riding in, in Oak Hill. After being asked to exit the car, Adams attempted to flee. An officer deployed a taser, but not before Adams spilled dangerous fentanyl powder onto an officer’s clothing and face, nearly causing a tragic overdose.
Both officers were rushed to the hospital with apparent overdoses, ingesting some of the spilled substance. In a disturbing revelation, Adams admitted that the cross-body bag he wore contained meth, fentanyl, and ecstasy tablets. The incident highlights the dangerous nature of drug trafficking on America’s streets.
Scheduled for sentencing on September 17, 2024, Adams faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years to up to 40 years in prison, along with at least four years of supervised release and a $5 million fine. Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber presided over the hearing, and Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum is prosecuting.
