Child Sex Crimes Rock North Carolina

A disturbing case of child sex crimes has shaken the community in North Carolina. Jose Hector Alvarado, a 44-year-old citizen of El Salvador, has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for traveling in interstate commerce to engage in illicit sexual conduct with two minors.

According to court documents, Alvarado drove a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl from Cherokee County, N.C., to Anderson, S.C. on March 19, 2016, for the purpose of engaging in sex with the minors. Upon arriving in Anderson, Alvarado bought gifts for the minors and then rented a motel room. The minors were eventually rescued after their parents alerted local law enforcement.

Alvarado pleaded guilty on October 26, 2017, to traveling in interstate commerce to engage in illicit sexual conduct. He is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to the custody of the federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility.

U.S. District Judge Max O. Cogburn, Jr. also ordered Alvarado to register as a sex offender after he is released from prison. The judge’s decision sends a strong message that such heinous crimes will not be tolerated in our society.

U.S. Attorney Andrew Murray thanked ICE/Homeland Security Investigations and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for their investigation of this case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville prosecuted the case.

Alvarado’s sentence is a result of his guilty plea and serves as a reminder that those who engage in such crimes will face severe consequences. His case highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies to protect our children from predators.
