ROCHESTER, N.Y.- Curtis D. Solomon, a 33-year-old North Carolina sex offender, pleaded guilty before Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci for failing to register as a sex offender in New York. The gritty criminal faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Solomon was convicted in 2005 for soliciting a sex offense in the first degree in North Carolina, making him subject to the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. Despite his legal obligation to register upon moving to another state, Solomon, who resided in Rochester, NY, from 2016 until his March 6, 2017, arrest, failed to do so.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Field detailed that not only did Solomon neglect to update his registration with the New York authorities but also failed to inform North Carolina of his relocation. His actions were uncovered through an investigation led by United States Marshal Charles Salina and the United States Marshals Service.
The guilty plea stems from a serious investigation, with sentencing scheduled for August 15, 2017, at 9:30 a.m., before Judge Geraci. Solomon’s case has garnered significant attention in the Rochester community and underscores the strict enforcement of sex offender registration laws across state lines.
Curtis D. Solomon’s failure to register as required by federal law demonstrates a disregard for the safety of local communities.
