A brazen bank robbery rocked Albertville in February 2021 when Regions Bank was hit by a suspect wielding force, violence, or intimidation.
Police quickly launched an investigation into the heist, working in tandem with the FBI to track down the culprit. Their efforts paid off with the indictment of Nekyle N. Chaney, 45, of Covington, Georgia.
The one-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court charges Chaney with bank robbery. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The FBI, with the assistance of the Albertville Police Department, led the investigation that resulted in Chaney’s indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Catherine Crosby and Michael Royster are prosecuting the case.
An indictment contains only charges and does not necessarily indicate guilt. Chaney will be presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
The case highlights the determination of law enforcement to bring those responsible for violent crimes to justice. The community can rest assured that the perpetrator will face the full weight of the law.
The indictment is a significant milestone in the investigation, and the community can look forward to a resolution in the coming months.
Nekyle N. Chaney, the defendant, is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case will proceed to trial, and the outcome will be determined by the court.
