Federal Judge Malcolm J. Howard has sentenced Nevada T. Beard, 45, of Charlotte, North Carolina, to 24 months imprisonment for filing fraudulent federal income tax returns. The former Raleigh resident operated ‘Beard Tax Solutions’ and is accused of causing nearly $300,000 in losses.
Beard was charged with presenting false claims after using Turbo Tax online to file returns with fictitious W-2 wages and household help income. Over 100 fraudulent returns were identified by the IRS investigation.
Michael C. Daniels, Acting Special Agent in Charge of IRS-Criminal Investigation, Charlotte Field Office, emphasized that such actions have severe consequences during tax season: ‘Today’s sentencing of Mr. Beard again emphasizes that the Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue their aggressive pursuit of those who attempt to defraud America’s tax system.’
The investigation revealed that Beard was already on supervised release for a firearms conviction in North Carolina when he committed these frauds.
Assistant United States Attorney Adam F. Hulbig prosecuted the case, which was conducted by IRS-Criminal Investigation.
This sentence serves as a stark reminder of the penalties for tax fraud and underscores the IRS’s commitment to protecting the integrity of the U.S. tax system.
