Nevada Man, Kyle Eugene Duncan-Carle, Stole $7M in Treasury Checks

A whopping $7,075,695.55 – that’s the staggering amount of cash swindled by a Nevada man who brazenly stole U.S. Treasury checks, authorities announced.

Kyle Eugene Duncan-Carle, 40, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was busted over the weekend in Lyon County and slapped with a laundry list of federal charges, including bank fraud, aggravated identity theft, and receipt of stolen government property, according to a DOJ press release.

Between January 2023 and September 2023, Duncan-Carle allegedly carried out a scheme to defraud multiple credit unions in Utah by obtaining stolen checks, assuming the identities of the victims, and depositing the checks into credit union accounts. The scheme saw Duncan-Carle obtain at least six stolen checks, including a $821,333 tax-refund check in April 2023.

U.S. Attorney Trina A. Higgins of the District of Utah made the announcement, stating that the case is a stark reminder of the importance of protecting sensitive information and the consequences of identity theft.

The case is being investigated by the IRS-CI, TIGTA, and the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stephen P. Dent and Luisa Gough prosecuting the case. The indictment is merely an allegation, and Duncan-Carle will face trial to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
