Michael Rodich, Narcotics and Firearm Violations, Pennsylvania 2024

GRAFTON, Pa. — A former New Castle resident has been sentenced to six years behind bars for a litany of drug and firearm violations that authorities say left a trail of danger in their wake.

Michael Rodich, 41, pleaded guilty to federal charges of possessing controlled substances with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon. United States District Judge W. Scott Hardy imposed the sentence on July 28, 2025.

Rodich’s downfall began on September 29, 2023, when he was apprehended by New Brighton Police Department with a loaded firearm at his side and drug paraphernalia, crack, fentanyl pills, and $2,380 in cash on him. A deeper dive into his backpack revealed two baggies of crack, powder cocaine, stamp bags of fentanyl, a digital scale, 10 rounds of ammunition, and 27 more rounds loose.

His previous felony conviction made Rodich’s possession of a firearm and ammunition all the more illegal under federal law. In court, Judge Hardy emphasized the importance of deterrence, noting that the possibility of such severe consequences should make potential criminals think twice before acting out.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Rebecca L. Silinski and Jacqueline C. Brown. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti praised the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), as well as the Hermitage Police Department, New Brighton Police Department, and Ellwood City Police Department, for their roles in the investigation that led to Rodich’s conviction.

As sentences are handed down, the message is clear: the federal government is cracking down on those who threaten public safety through drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession. For Rodich, it will be six years of hard time before he can even consider stepping back into society.
