New Haven’s Devell Conley, alias ‘DL,’ was today sentenced to a staggering 78 months in federal prison for his role as a drug dealer responsible for distributing deadly opioids. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall, also mandates three years of supervised release following his prison term.
Conley’s conviction stems from an investigation into the untimely death of a 27-year-old woman in East Haven on May 5, 2017. Police discovered that Conley had supplied the victim with drugs before her death, and evidence at the scene led to his arrest.
Prior to this latest offense, Conley had been under law enforcement scrutiny for distributing heroin and crack cocaine between July 2016 and May 2017. His criminal history includes 14 prior convictions, including drug distribution, assault, and resisting arrest.
Conley pleaded guilty on October 17, 2018, to one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of heroin and fentanyl, as well as one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of heroin and cocaine base (‘crack’). He has been detained since his arrest in May 2017.
The investigation was a collaborative effort by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Haven Task Force and local law enforcement agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick F. Caruso prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
