GRAND BLANC – In a stunning revelation, Kobe Y. Patterson, 24, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, was arraigned today on charges that he illegally purchased firearms for others, according to United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr.
Patterson is accused of purchasing several firearms from local dealers and claiming to be the actual buyer, when in fact he knew he was acting as a straw purchaser. This illegal activity has led to recovered weapons at felons’ hands and crime scenes, raising alarms across law enforcement agencies.
Joining Gorgon in the announcement was James Deir, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF – Detroit Field Division, who emphasized the severity of Patterson’s actions: “Patterson’s straw purchases are dangerous because they undermine our ability to keep firearms away from criminals and other prohibited persons.”
“If personal greed takes you to a place where you illegally traffic firearms, your next destination on your greed journey is federal prison,” Deir warned.
This case was investigated by ATF special agents with support from the Grand Blanc Township Police Department and the Flint Township Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Vance is handling the prosecution.
U.S. Attorney Gorgon reminded readers that an indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt, assuring everyone that the defendant is entitled to a fair trial.
