A New Haven man has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for distributing heroin. Curtis Drahughn, 63, also known as ‘Kirk’, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant in Hartford.
The sentence follows an ongoing investigation into heroin sales in the state. Investigators determined that a 33-year-old man who overdosed and died in New Haven in 2016 had called ‘Kirk’ before his death.
In 2017, investigators made three controlled purchases of heroin from Draughn. He was arrested in October 2017 and pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of heroin in October 2018.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter S. Jongbloed prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Haven Task Force and the New Haven Police Department.
Draughn will also serve three years of supervised release after his 15-month prison sentence is completed. The sentence aims to address the growing heroin epidemic in the state.
