Criminals in the Elm City are on notice, as a local man has been charged with distributing synthetic cannabinoids, commonly known as K2 or Spice, according to federal authorities.
Quentin Staggers, 47, of New Haven, has been hit with a three-count indictment for allegedly possessing with intent to distribute and distributing synthetic cannabinoids on July 20, August 15, and August 16, 2018.
Staggers was arrested on August 16, 2018, on a federal criminal complaint and has been detained ever since.
If convicted, Staggers faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years on each count of the indictment, which adds up to a total of 60 years behind bars.
The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration New Haven Task Force and the New Haven Police Department.
U.S. Attorney John H. Durham stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt, noting that charges are only allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Caruso and Assistant State’s Attorney Karen Roberg.
Staggers, also known as Q, has been a thorn in the side of law enforcement in New Haven, and this indictment is a major victory for those working to keep the city safe.
