New Haven’s Errie McClendon, also known as ‘Buck,’ has been sentenced to an additional two years in prison after violating the terms of his supervised release. The 32-year-old was originally sentenced to a 41-month term for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon following an incident that saw him toss a handgun toward a bystander at Goffe Street Park in New Haven.
Court documents reveal that on May 11, 2019, the police were alerted about an individual in possession of a firearm. Upon approaching McClendon, who was identified as a convicted felon, officers discovered he had a Ruger P85 pistol with an obliterated serial number, loaded and ready to be discarded.
McClendon’s supervised release was terminated following his 2020 conviction, but trouble followed him out of prison. In October 2022, Hamden Police arrested him for domestic offenses including assault, threatening, and risk of injury to a minor. McClendon also tested positive for illegal substances multiple times between June and December 2022.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jocelyn Courtney Kaoutzanis prosecuted the case that saw McClendon now face an additional 24 months behind bars, further tarnishing his criminal record.
This isn’t the first time McClendon has clashed with the law. His previous violations and this latest sentence underscore the severity of the situation in New Haven where repeat offenses have led to a spiral of violence and lawlessness.
