Sukha Singh Boyal, Passport Fraud, New Jersey 2024

Newark’s Sukha Singh Boyal, 52, has been unmasked for his fraudulent acquisition of a United Kingdom passport, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office announcement.

Boyal, who was an alien in the United States in 1999, falsified his identity to travel from Newark to New Delhi using the name ‘Kamal Jeet.’ His deceitful escapade came crashing down when he was refused entry into India and returned to the U.S. He later became a naturalized citizen.

In a stunning reversal of fortune, Boyal now faces serious consequences for his lies. Today, he pleaded guilty before Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr., to making a false statement in a passport application, a charge that could land him 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Wei Xiang revealed that Boyal applied for naturalization with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, acknowledging his false name during the interview process. His citizenship was granted on April 16, 2009.

However, just a year later, Boyal tried to deceive once more by submitting a fraudulent U.S. passport application. His lie was exposed when he declared under penalty of perjury that ‘none’ were his other names, despite having used the alias ‘Kamal Jeet’ in the past.

This case has been a joint effort between Homeland Security Investigations and the Diplomatic Security Service, both agencies working tirelessly to uphold the integrity of our immigration system. Boyal’s sentencing is scheduled for August 15, 2019, at 3pm before Judge Geraci, where his future will be decided.
