New Orleans Man Charged in Bomb Threat Scare
A 30-year-old New Orleans man is facing serious charges after allegedly making over 40 telephonic bomb threats to various targets in the city, including government buildings, schools, hotels, and casinos.
Jahvar Hooks, a resident of New Orleans, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen Wells Roby on [date] after being charged by criminal complaint with making threatening telephone calls in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 844(e), announced U.S. Attorney Dana Boente.
According to the criminal complaint, Hooks made the threatening phone calls from August 12, 2013 through August 19, 2013. The victims of these threats included the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court and the New Orleans Municipal/Traffic Court, as well as schools, hotels, casinos, and other government buildings.
During an interview with officers of the New Orleans Police Department, Hooks admitted to making the threatening telephone calls, which sparked a massive investigation by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
If convicted, Hooks faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and a three-year term of supervised release. U.S. Attorney Boente emphasized that a criminal complaint is merely a charge, and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gregory M. Kennedy. A copy of the criminal complaint can be downloaded from the link provided below.
This is not the first time Hooks has been in the spotlight for his alleged crimes. His case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of bomb threats on communities and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
The investigation and prosecution of this case highlight the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protect the public and maintain public safety.
