⏱ 2 min read

A brazen daytime robbery shook a New Orleans neighborhood on December 16, 2024, when 33-year-old Jody Harris attacked a United States Postal Service employee on Forshey Street. Harris, armed with a Beretta handgun, threatened the mail carrier, demanding he hand over his keys, mail scanner, and satchel full of mail.

Fearing for his life, the victim complied, handing over the keys and scanner. Harris then entered the USPS vehicle and made off with a USPS Arrow key and the mail scanner, which was equipped with GPS.

After a brief investigation, authorities discovered Harris’ connection to a residence in the 8800 block of Forshey Street. A search warrant was executed, and police recovered the stolen property, including the USPS vehicle keys and a debit card bearing Harris’ name.

Harris was subsequently charged with Assault of a Postal Employee and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. On March 10, 2026, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 144 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a $200 special assessment fee.
