⏱ 2 min read

A bloody scene unfolded in the Holly Grove neighborhood of New Orleans when Kyle Conerly, 33, tossed a loaded handgun over a fence during a sting operation on November 20, 2023.

Conerly, a convicted felon with a history of violence, is prohibited from possessing a handgun due to his previous convictions for attempted second-degree murder and manslaughter in Orleans Parish.

Conerly pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8).

U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance sentenced Conerly to 33 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, as well as a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations and protecting communities from violent crime.
