A New Orleans man, David Louis IV, got 33 months in the slammer for being a convicted felon caught with a loaded Glock pistol in a park.
On April 15, 2025, the NOPD was hot on Louis’s tail, conducting surveillance near Conrad Park in the 3400 block of Hamilton Street. That’s where they saw Louis and a female associate enter the park, with Louis sporting a black backpack containing marijuana.
As Louis’s girlfriend and her vehicle arrived at the scene, Louis got into a heated argument with the occupants. During the melee, he removed the Glock pistol from his waistband and waved it in the air. NOPD officers arrived just in time to see Louis in possession of the firearm.
When officers approached, Louis bailed into the Altima, stashing the pistol and his backpack on the driver’s side floorboard. A search of the vehicle turned up the loaded Glock, along with 22 live rounds of ammunition.
Louis, 23, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Darrell J. Papillion. The sentence will run consecutively to a yet-to-be-determined state sentence for possessing contraband in jail, and concurrently with sentences for probation violations in two other state court matters.
