Nolan Long, 34, is done playing games with the law. The New Orleans native ditched a loaded pistol during a foot chase last January, but it only bought him a one-way ticket to the slammer.
Long was already a felon, with a rap sheet that includes a prior conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm. But that didn’t stop him from showing off his gun to a group of friends in the French Quarter. NOPD detectives were hot on their heels, and when they caught up to Long, he took off running.
A loaded Walther P22 pistol went flying out of Long’s grasp as he fled, but he didn’t get far. He was apprehended and later charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Long’s antics caught the attention of federal prosecutors, who charged him under Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8). U.S. District Judge Darryl J. Papillion handed down a 15-month sentence, along with two years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment fee.
