Aughkay L. Green, 50, a.k.a. “K-Boogie,” of Newark, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in distributing heroin and cocaine base, as well as being a felon in possession of firearms, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig.
Green, a former employee of the Newark Parking Authority, previously pleaded guilty to a three-count indictment charging him with possession of heroin and cocaine base with intent to distribute, and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.
According to court documents, Green sold 25 bricks of heroin to an individual known as “Individual 1” on Jan. 12, 2017, for $1,200. The heroin was later determined to be 38 grams. On March 22, 2017, Green sold Individual 1 48.9 grams of crack cocaine for $2,250. Green was under law enforcement surveillance at the time and was observed wearing his Newark Parking Authority uniform.
On April 1, 2017, Green met Individual 1 in Irvington, New Jersey, along with an unidentified male associate. The associate provided Individual 1 with a Smith and Wesson Model 21 .44 caliber handgun, a Smith and Wesson Model 15 .38 handgun, and 50 rounds of hollow-point .44 caliber ammunition marked “44 REM MAG FC.” Green’s associate received $1,360 from Individual 1 and subsequently provided Green with proceeds from the sale.
In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Katharine S. Hayden sentenced Green to three years of supervised release. Honig credited special agents of the FBI and task force officers of the Joint Terrorism Task Force with the investigation.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Dean C. Sovolos of the U.S. Attorney’s Office National Security Unit.
Green’s case is a stark reminder of the dangers of firearms and narcotics trafficking in our community. It is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement agencies that Green has been brought to justice.
