Peter A. Maiolo, Jr. Passed Counterfeit Money, Pennsylvania 2015
A resident of Pittsburgh has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of passing and uttering counterfeit money, Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song announced today.
Peter A. Maiolo, Jr., 42, of Pittsburgh, PA, was named in an eight-count indictment that was returned on August 8 and unsealed today.
According to the indictment, Maiolo passed counterfeit $100 Federal Reserve Notes at the Mt. Nebo Target store on eight separate occasions between July 6, 2015, and September 7, 2015.
The dates of the alleged offenses are July 6, 2015, July 10, 2015, August 2, 2015, August 18, 2015, August 22, 2015, August 25, 2015, August 30, 2015, and September 7, 2015.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 160 years in prison, a fine of $2,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Shardul S. Desai is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The United States Secret Service conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
