Keith Collins, Jr., Bank Heist, TX, 2014

Four men and one woman have been hit with federal charges for a brazen bank heist in Newton County, Texas. The Department of Justice announced that Keith Collins, Jr., 24, Michael Dwayne Byerly, 20, Xavier Odarius Clark, 21, and Khadijah Joy De’Inn Adams, 20, are accused of participating in the June 25, 2014, Sabine State Bank & Trust Company robbery. A bank employee suffered multiple stab wounds during the incident, leaving them critically injured.

The indictment states that Collins, Byerly, and Clark were charged with bank robbery, conspiracy to commit armed bank robbery, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and accessory after the fact. Adams was also charged as an accessory. If convicted, they each face substantial prison time, including up to 20 years for the bank robbery charge.

Video surveillance was key in identifying Collins as a suspect. Further investigation connected Byerly, Clark, and Adams to the crime. The FBI, Newton County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals Service are investigating the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher T. Tortorice.

Despite the charges, all accused individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. An indictment is not evidence of guilt.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by bank employees and law enforcement when dealing with violent criminals. The community’s support for the victim and law enforcement efforts to bring the suspects to justice has been steadfast.
