Two Nicaraguan brothers, Elvin Evelio Davila-Marin, 30, and Wilson Uriel Davila-Marin, 27, have been handed down sentences by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier for their illegal reentry into the United States following deportation.
The duo, who had previously been deported from the United States on June 22, 2018, at Alexandria, Louisiana, were captured and brought to justice in the District of South Dakota. The incident, which led to their convictions, occurred on or about October 10, 2018, when both men came into contact with law enforcement.
Elvin Davila-Marin has been sentenced to time served – a total of 193 days – and is required to pay $100 into the Federal Crime Victims Fund. His brother, Wilson Uriel Davila-Marin, also faces the same penalty for his part in the illegal reentry.
The investigation leading to their convictions was spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper handled the prosecution of the case, ensuring justice was served for the crimes committed.
Both Elvin and Wilson Davila-Marin have been remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, serving as a stark reminder to others considering similar actions that illegal reentry has serious consequences.
This case serves as yet another example of the ongoing battle against illegal immigration in the United States and the efforts of law enforcement to uphold the nation’s laws.
