MINNEAPOLIS – A string of terrifying armed robberies along University Avenue in St. Paul has led to the indictment of a local man, Nicholas Antwain Dancy, 38. The brazen robberies, which took place between May 27 and June 5, 2022, left store employees shaken and fearful for their safety.
According to court documents, Dancy robbed three grocery stores located on University Avenue in St. Paul: Towfiq Grocery, Midway Grocery and Deli, and Global Food and Mid Market. During the robberies, Dancy used a firearm to threaten the employees and demand cash, putting the lives of innocent people at risk.
This is not the first time Dancy has found himself on the wrong side of the law. As a convicted felon, Dancy is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition at any time. His decision to ignore this law and commit these heinous crimes has landed him in hot water.
The FBI and the St. Paul Police Department conducted a thorough investigation into the robberies, gathering evidence and building a case against Dancy. Their hard work has paid off, with Dancy now facing serious charges.
Dancy is charged with three counts of Hobbs Act robbery, one count of brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and one count of possessing a firearm as a felon. He is scheduled to make an initial appearance in U.S. District Court on August 15, 2022, before Magistrate Judge Becky R. Thorson.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ruth S. Shnider is prosecuting the case. While an indictment is merely an allegation, the severity of the charges against Dancy is a stark reminder that justice will be served. Dancy is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
