A Lewiston man has been sentenced to six years in prison for illegally possessing a firearm.
Nicholas Coy, 32, of Lewiston, Maine, was sentenced on December 12, 2016, in U.S. District Court by Judge George Z. Singal.
According to court records, on December 12, 2016, Lewiston police officers responding to a 911 call at an apartment on Knox Street encountered Coy behaving irrationally and appearing to be under the influence of a controlled substance.
While inside the apartment, the police recovered a handgun belonging to Coy. Coy was prohibited from possessing firearms based on prior felony convictions for robbery, aggravated assault, and theft.
The case was investigated by the Lewiston Police Department; the U.S. Marshals Service; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Coy’s sentence is the culmination of a thorough investigation and diligent prosecution of a serious crime.
