Violent Domestic Assault Lands White Earth Man 10-Year Prison Sentence
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota – A White Earth man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for a violent domestic assault.
Nicholas Edward Durant, 31, was living with the victim in a residence located on the White Earth Indian Reservation.
On April 3, 2020, Durant violently assaulted the victim, hitting her multiple times in the chest, abdomen, face, and head. The victim was treated for a deep laceration below her eye, extreme back pain, and a traumatic hematoma of the head.
Durant pleaded guilty to one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury on October 25, 2021. This case was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Mahnomen County Attorney’s Office.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily A. Polachek. The victim suffered severe injuries in the violent assault.
