Local Man Charged with Aiming Laser Pointer at Aircraft
MADISON, WIS. – Nicholas James Link, a 42-year-old man from Rochester, Minnesota, has been charged with two counts of aiming the beam of a laser pointer at aircraft.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin, Link allegedly aimed the laser pointer at a Delta Airlines commercial aircraft and a Minnesota State Patrol aircraft on October 29, 2021. The incident occurred in Wisconsin.
The indictment was returned by a grand jury on January 26, 2022. The charges were unsealed yesterday, and Link’s initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Madison has not been scheduled.
If convicted, Link faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison on each count.
