Nicholas O. Nelson, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Wisconsin 2018

A Milwaukee man has been indicted for a firearm offense in the Village of Fox Crossing, Wisconsin.

The indictment, returned on July 10, 2018, charges Nicholas O. Nelson, 35, with being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, 922(g) (1). This offense carries a maximum of 10 years’ imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, and up to 3 years of supervised release. If convicted, Nelson faces these severe consequences.

According to the indictment, on or about February 26, 2017, while at a location in the Village of Fox Crossing, Nelson possessed a 40-caliber semiautomatic handgun. At the time of the incident, Nelson was prohibited from possessing firearms.

This case is being prosecuted as part of the Project Safe Neighborhood initiative. Project Safe Neighborhoods is a federal, state, and local law enforcement collaboration to identify, investigate, and prosecute individuals responsible for violent crimes in our neighborhoods.

The Fox Crossing Police Department investigated the case, with assistance from the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew J. Maier.

An indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
