Jackson Man Caught with Firearm Despite Felony Conviction
Nigel Payton, a 40-year-old Jackson resident, has pleaded guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Payton was found with a firearm on September 28, 2021, by a Jackson Police officer and has a prior felony conviction for manslaughter in Hinds County.
As a convicted felon, Payton is prohibited from possessing a firearm. A federal grand jury indicted Payton on February 23, 2022, for possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. This case has significant implications for public safety and the community’s trust in law enforcement.
