Florida School Shooter Settles for $127.5 Million in Civil Cases

Florida – In a shocking turn of events, Nikolas Cruz, the perpetrator of the 2018 Parkland school shooting, has reached a settlement with victims’ families for $127.5 million.

The settlement resolves all 40 civil cases arising from the February 14, 2018, mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

The 40 civil cases were filed by survivors of the shooting and the families of 16 people killed in the attack. The parties had been in litigation since late 2018.

Nikolas Cruz, a former student, walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School armed with a rifle and ammunition concealed in a rifle bag and opened fire with his semi-automatic weapon, killing 17 people and injuring 17 more.

This tragic event marked the deadliest high school shooting in U.S. history.

In October 2021, Nikolas Cruz pleaded guilty to 17 counts of premeditated first-degree murder and 17 counts of attempted first-degree murder.

This case was handled by the Justice Department’s Civil Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida.

It is worth noting that the settlement does not amount to an admission of fault by the United States.

The settlement of $127.5 million is a significant step forward for the victims’ families, who have been seeking justice for their loved ones.

Nikolas Cruz is currently serving his sentence in a Florida prison.
