Klamath Falls, OR – A woman’s desperate escape from a homemade cinderblock cell has cracked open a chilling case of interstate sexual assault, and the FBI’s Portland Field Office is now scrambling to identify potential victims across the country. Negasi Zuberi, 29, is in federal custody after abducting a Seattle prostitute and subjecting her to a brutal ordeal before imprisoning her in a garage cell rigged to prevent escape.
The victim, whose name is being withheld by authorities, told investigators Zuberi posed as an undercover police officer to lure her into his vehicle on July 15th. What followed was a cross-state kidnapping and a series of sexual assaults during the drive to Klamath Falls. Once at Zuberi’s residence, she was chained and locked inside a meticulously constructed cell – cinderblocks forming the walls, a metal door installed backward to thwart any attempt to open it from within.
She didn’t remain captive for long. With raw determination, the woman managed to break free from the cell, sustaining injuries in the process. She flagged down a passing motorist, who immediately contacted authorities. Klamath Falls PD responded, securing the scene and discovering the horrific makeshift cell, confirming the victim’s harrowing account. Zuberi, however, didn’t stick around to face the music. He fled the area, triggering a multi-state manhunt.
The pursuit ended in Reno, Nevada, where Zuberi was apprehended following a brief standoff with local law enforcement. Federal prosecutors are now building a case against him, focusing on the interstate kidnapping charge. But the scope of Zuberi’s crimes is far from contained. The FBI believes he’s a serial offender with a pattern of targeting vulnerable women, and that this is not his first time operating under false pretenses.
Investigators have uncovered evidence suggesting Zuberi has lived in at least ten different states over the past decade, utilizing multiple aliases – including “Sakima,” “Justin Hyche,” and “Justin Kouassi” – to evade detection. Sources close to the investigation tell Grimy Times that Zuberi is suspected of drugging victims and employing intimidation tactics, threatening retaliation if they were to report him to the police. This pattern of behavior suggests a calculated attempt to conceal a history of violent sexual assault.
The FBI is urging anyone who may have information about Negasi Zuberi, or who believes they may have been a victim of his crimes, to come forward immediately.
