BOSTON – In a shocking turn of events, Noe Estuardo Castaneda Marroquin, 31, was charged with illegally reentering the United States after being deported. The Guatemalan national, who has a long history of immigration offenses, is accused of breaching the terms of his deportation.
According to sources, Castaneda Marroquin was previously deported on May 19, 2005. However, he was encountered by law enforcement on June 12, 2017 in Barnstable, Massachusetts, while illegally present in the country.
The defendant now faces a serious charge of one count of illegal reentry after deportation, which carries a potential sentence of no greater than two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Moreover, he will be subject to deportation upon completion of his sentence.
Acting United States Attorney William D. Weinreb and Matthew J. Etre, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston, announced the charges against Castaneda Marroquin today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of Weinreb’s Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
