NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – Jason Lonnie, 47, is staring down a lengthy federal sentence after admitting to a serious narcotics offense. The Orleans Parish resident pled guilty on July 2, 2024, to possession with intent to distribute fifty (50) grams or more of methamphetamine, a violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B). The bust underscores the continued flow of hard drugs through the city’s underbelly.
According to court documents, Lonnie was identified as a key supplier within Orleans Parish, fueling the region’s methamphetamine demand. Investigators zeroed in on Lonnie, leading to his arrest and a search that yielded a significant haul: 84 grams of methamphetamine stashed inside his backpack. The evidence clearly pointed to intent to distribute, not personal use.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans’ office announced the guilty plea, detailing the severe penalties Lonnie now faces. The mandatory minimum sentence is five (5) years behind bars, but the maximum could reach a staggering forty (40) years. In addition to imprisonment, Lonnie is liable for up to a $5,000,000 fine and at least four (4) years of supervised release after serving his time. A $100 special assessment fee is also mandated.
