Nolan Eugene McCray Admits to Methamphetamine Possession in West Virginia Court
A Texas man has admitted to a federal drug charge in West Virginia. Nolan Eugene McCray, age 39, of Cedar Lane, Texas, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court documents and statements made in court, McCray was identified during an investigation into drug activity in the region. A search of a Wetzel County property where McCray had stayed turned up methamphetamine and $14,580 in cash.
McCray was taken into custody on outstanding warrants in Texas. While in jail, he made several phone calls to drug associates in the Northern Panhandle, which led officers to search another property. That search yielded more than 400 grams of methamphetamine and nearly one kilogram of heroin.
The Marshall County Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, and the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Clayton Reid is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. McCray faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
The investigation and subsequent arrest were the result of a collaborative effort by law enforcement agencies in the region. The case highlights the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking in West Virginia and the importance of continued cooperation between local, state, and federal authorities.
Nolan Eugene McCray is scheduled to be sentenced in the near future. The exact date has not been announced.
