Nolberto Martinez, Cocaine Possession, Georgia 2015

A 31-year-old man from Bronwood, Georgia has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in a large-scale cocaine and crack cocaine distribution organization.

Nolberto Martinez, also known as ‘Negro’, was convicted on September 5, 2013, following a 20-day jury trial. Testimony at trial revealed that Martinez was a member of the Gulf Cartel that supplied cocaine to Middle Georgia.

From 2007 to October 2011, Martinez was involved in a large-scale cocaine and crack cocaine distribution organization responsible for the distribution of over 500 kilograms of cocaine in Berrien, Colquitt, Dougherty, Tift, Lowndes, Terrell, Turner, Seminole, Ware, and Calhoun counties in Georgia.

The cartel worked from Matamoros, Mexico, placing cocaine inside the hidden compartments of specially-equipped vehicles.

Martinez was sentenced on January 22, 2015, to serve 30 years (360 months) in federal prison for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine and distribution of cocaine.

The sentence was handed down by the Honorable W. Louis Sands, Senior United States District Court Judge, in Albany, Georgia.

This case is the result of an investigation by the DEA Atlanta Field Division and its law enforcement counterparts. U.S. Attorney Michael Moore said, ‘We have seen an alarming increase in the distribution of drugs from Mexico to the Middle District of Georgia. With these drugs come violence and the devastation of untold numbers of lives.’

Other members of the drug conspiracy have previously been sentenced, including Carlos Johnson, Kelvin Johnson, Bobby Taylor, Gary Lockett, Stuart Cole, William McKeithen, Raymond Sutton, Mark Cleveland Simpson, T’Michael Jones, Casey Clemons, Octavio Sandoval, Antonio Wimbush, James Willis, Francisco Javier Arispe, M. Nichole Sheffield, Baldemar Chavero Leal, and W. Alvin Barge.
